Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 4, 2026

1. Introduction

SciSimulator ("we", "our", or "the Service") is a free educational STEM simulation platform. We are committed to protecting the privacy of our users, including students and minors. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.

2. Information We Collect

SciSimulator does not require account registration and collects minimal data. The information we may collect includes:

  • Analytics data: We use PostHog to collect anonymous usage analytics such as page views, session duration, and feature usage. This data is aggregated and does not personally identify you.
  • Language preference: We store a cookie on your browser to remember your preferred language setting. This cookie contains only the language code (e.g., "en", "zh") and no personal information.
  • AI chat inputs: If you use the AI assistant feature, the messages you send are transmitted to Google's Gemini API for processing. We do not store these messages on our servers after your session ends.

3. How We Use Information

We use the collected information to:

  • Improve and optimize the educational experience
  • Understand which simulations and features are most used
  • Remember your language preference across visits
  • Provide AI-powered educational assistance
  • Monitor and maintain the Service's performance and reliability

4. Cookies

SciSimulator uses a single first-party cookie to store your language preference. This cookie persists for up to one year and contains only the selected language code. PostHog may also set cookies for analytics purposes. You can control cookie behavior through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect the language preference feature but will not prevent you from using the simulations.

5. Third-Party Services

SciSimulator integrates with the following third-party services:

  • PostHog: Analytics platform used to understand usage patterns. PostHog's privacy policy applies to the data they process on our behalf.
  • Google Gemini API: Powers the AI assistant feature. Messages sent to the AI assistant are processed by Google in accordance with their privacy policy and terms of service.
  • Cloudflare: The Service is hosted on Cloudflare Workers. Cloudflare may collect standard server logs including IP addresses for security and performance purposes, subject to Cloudflare's privacy policy.

6. Children's Privacy

SciSimulator is designed as an educational tool suitable for students of all ages, including children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The Service does not require account registration, does not collect names, email addresses, or other personally identifiable information. The anonymous analytics data we collect cannot be used to identify individual users. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal information through the AI chat feature, please contact us and we will take steps to address the concern.

7. Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect the information associated with the Service. All data transmitted between your browser and our servers is encrypted using HTTPS. The Service is hosted on Cloudflare's global network, which provides enterprise-grade security protections. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
